About tarpfest

This year it gonna be the sixth autumn when „TARP“ (In-Between) festival shares with you the most interesting combinations of poetry, music (electronic, experimental, alternative) and visuals. So, last year we had a small anniversary for all of us.

In this brief, but quite firm's marginal festival‘s period we have experienced a range of Italian, Finnish, French and German poetry, enjoyed AGF electronic waves, presented the Latvian neighbors "Orbita" the latest video works. As well we held the weirdest, the most magnificent and audiovisual, the best multidisciplinary arts reconciling or provocative poetry films. And two years before we started an educational, night slam'o poetry readings and jam session program. From the Indian mantra to hardcore'o the rope of experimental poetry is stretched among different disciplines and alternative places of Lithuania.

An intensive program last year started in the middle of October and covered a period of several weeks. The festival opened on 12 October at „Fluxus ministry“ with a pfoto exhibition of Darius Jurevicius, who himself was not only taking pictures, but participating in „TARP“ as a poet during mostly all of these years. After the nostalgy of the photo exhibition we‘ve been immersed in the international poetry slam where you could hear to American slam history already recorded Bob Holman.

From 20th of October we continued with the musical program. The music performance "Reading the newspaper" lead to audio poetry group „Betoniniai triušiai“ (Concrete rabbits') performance.

The main last year focus was an international poetry movies festival „ZEBRA“ presentation. Every two years in Berlin organized „ZEBRA“ festival shows selected movies from more than 900 hundreds of poetry film works from all corners of the continent. Thanks to kind Goethe‘s Institute support, International and German artists screenings programme during "TARP“ festival in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda and Siauliai were shown for free.

So, the weekend program (October 23- 24) was held in Vilnius, at 6 pm. starting by "Zebra" screenings at the National Art Gallery, and then continuing at underground club „XI20“. Who was there last year at „TARP“ events, still remembers free and cosy atmosphere of the place . And who missed this opportunity and don‘t find the address easily, could try the chance during next "TARP".

Saturday and Sunday concerts of Lithuanian artists varied from hip-hop, electronics, and folktale performes by OBŠRR. Of course, the poetry jam session was opened for everybody who liked to improvise by tex or by music instrument, if you registered in advance.

On Tuesday we went towards the Baltic sea, on the way visiting Šiauliai Art Gallery (October 26) with „ZEBRA“ movies programme which on Wednesday (27 October) was shown in Klaipeda as well at „Švyturio meno dokas“ („Lighthouse Arts dock“), where weve met poems, screenings and electronic party.

Let us hope that next TARP will open free spaces for creativity and participation. We look forward to comments, suggestions and questions.
